All About Omega 3 Supplements

Studies prove that most women have deficiency of Omega 3 and they usually are unaware of it. So the question arises what exactly Omega 3 is, how can you notice its deficiency and how to recover from it. I'm compiling all the information here to help you understand why one should consider Omega 3 intake.

Omega-3 is a type of polyunsaturated fat that is essential for optimal health, so don't confuse it with  saturated or trans fats that lead to clogged arteries. Omega 3 is your high-quality source of the fatty acids EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid ) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) that are beneficial for your health. These are important for normal metabolism.

There are different forms of omega-3 fatty acids – alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA). ALA can be obtained from many edible seeds and plant oils while the sources of EPA and DHA include certain types of fish, fish oils, eggs from chickens fed EPA and DHA.

Sources of Omega 3 include some excellent plant-based foods like flaxseeds, leafy greens, beans, Spinach, kidney beans and soybeans, cauliflower, broccoli and cabbage. For the non-vegetarians, salmon, mackerel and sardines are the best choices that contain the highest levels of DHA and EPA.

Omega 3 fatty acides cannot be made within our body we should get them from our diet. But if your diet is not enough to meet your needs, then a good-quality fish oil supplement is the next best option. Mostly these supplements come in the form of capsules or soft gels that are easy to swallow.

I've been taking these Oriflame Omega 3 capsules since past 3 weeks now. Because most symptoms that are associated with Omega 3 deficiency could be noticed in me to certain extent like dry patchy skin, dull lifeless hair, peeling nails, joint pain, poor quality sleep, irritable mood, poor concentration, affected eye signt and fatigue. I didn't want the problem to worsen so started this food supplement because this deficieny could lead to varying functioning of my body over time.
It's key ingredients include natural fish oil that contains the fatty acids EPA and DHA in natural triglyceride form. Other Ingredients include Fish Gelatin and Glazing agent Glycerol. It's free from heavy metals and other toxins.
It comes in small plastic jar container. I carry it wherever I go as the packaging is quite light weight. Each jar contains 60 capsules that makes it a one month supply becuase the reccomended dosage is 2 capsule a day with your main meal.
Per Capsule:
75 mg EPA
50 mg DHA
Price : 1599 per jar of 60 capsules.
Taking a daily supplement of Omega 3 promotes smooth and healthy skin. It offers cardiovascular, brain, eye and nervous system benefits, too. It improves heart health and cholesterol levels, improves skin moisture and elasticity and reduces UV damage and wrinkles. It also improves endurance and strength, decreased inflammation and soreness of muscles.
I am able to notice improvement in energy and mood related issues in my body. I don't keep awake for long during night time which is contributing directly on my mood swings too. I'm determined to continue the intake of Omega 3 to avail optimum benefits for a strong immune system.
Lastly, talking about the side effects of  taking omega-3 supplements which generally include a fishy taste in your mouth, fishy breath, upset stomach with loose stools and nausea. To my good luck, I faced none of the issue at all- no bad breath, no foul taste and nothing else (probably the experience may vary person to person).
One should take caution not to consume Omega 3 supplements above the prescribe dosage else it may lead to nose bleeding.
This post is written keeping in mind general good physical condition of a person. For any disorders, a consultion with the doctor is advised.
Have you ever considered taking Omega 3 supplements? If yes, how has been your experience?
